As you’ve already discovered, moving to an apartment creates the “need” for a whole lot of stuff you probably didn’t know you needed. If decorating right the first time out is your plan, you’ll want to go room by room. One area in an apartment home not to overlook is the bathroom. This can rank up there with the living room as an important space to decorate right and equip appropriately.
So, what exactly do you need to make bathroom decorating ideas go smoothly? Here are some of the bases you’ll likely want to cover:
Bathroom design plan – This isn’t something you’ll have to buy, but having an idea in mind for decorating can guide all of your purchases and make the process go much easier. Decide whether you want to go Old World, New Wave or even Ultra Country in your bathroom. Pick your colors, too, and then start creating a shopping list.
Linens – One of the biggest and most affordable design features in a bathroom happens to be among the most utilitarian, too. The towels you select for bath use, hand washing and drying can make a big difference in your overall design. Make sure to follow the plan in regard to theme and/or colors when selecting towels to dry yourself on. Make sure you purchase large towels for showering and small towels for hand drying.
Curtain – A shower curtain and a plastic liner will be musts unless you happen to have a glass shower door. Make sure these purchases fit in with your colors and design plan to enjoy a look that comes together well. Themed shower curtains, by the way, can set the tone for the entire room.
Curtain rod – You may also have to pick up a curtain rod to hang your curtain if the apartment doesn’t come with one. You can get tension rods so you don’t have to put holes in the wall to hang it.
Mats – Once you move into your own place, you will soon discover the value of these items. Not only will bathmats help you keep water off your floor, they can also bring your design together quite nicely. Colors and themes matter here, too.

Shelves – You may also need to pick up some shelves if there isn’t a lot of storage space in your bathroom. You can get shelves that stand on the floor over the back of the toilet, or you can get some that you attach to the wall. A medicine cabinet isn’t a bad idea either.
Other accessories – Don’t undercut the value of having the right bathroom accessories. Things you’ll want to consider here for usefulness and/or appearances include soap holders, a shower caddy organizer, toothbrush holder and even pictures for the wall. If you stick to that original design plan, these items can really help complete the look you’re going for.
Bathroom decorating ideas are a little more important than many people realize. Even if you can’t decide on a design plan, picking the room essentials and colors can make this room stand out as comfortable, functional and even relaxing.
